Across the country, Cineworld has been struck by big budget film delays, resulting in a temporary closure, likely to last the remainder of the year.
The announcement comes days after the new James Bond film, No Time to Die was postponed for a second time, now to April 2021.
With 127 UK venues forced to close; 5,500 UK jobs are at risk, leaving staff to be offered redundancy packages.
Cineworld addressed to their website: ‘This is not a decision we made lightly. We did everything in our power to support safe and sustainable reopening of our cinemas...’
Cineworld first opened its doors again in July for the release of Christopher Nolan’s Tenant. In light with government advice; social distancing, organised seating, mandatory facemasks, and deep cleaning were put into place.
However, the further postponement of films such as James Bond, Marvels Black Widow and Wonder Woman 1984 has, “plunged cinemas into crisis” said Phillipa Childs who is a member of the broadcasting union, Bectu.
Childs told the BBC: “Studios will have to think carefully when considering release dates about the impact that will have for the long-term future of the big screen.”
As a result, Cineworld highlights they will be closely monitoring the situation and will keep the public updated to any future plans of reopening: "We can assure you that once a line-up of movie releases is confirmed, we will be ready to re-open our cinemas, as we did in July, with the same safety levels you have already seen while at the same time keeping the great experience that you are used to getting from us."
