The Edinburgh University Film Society, are supporters of all genre of film, ‘from 3-hour war epics, to beautiful documentaries, to trashy romcoms.’

They provide a space to debate the elements of what they love about a film and ‘argue about what makes it bad’

Before COVID-19, the societies’ normal running order would involve holding a student cinema, screening two films a week.

For this semester they had planned to show films such as The MatrixParasiteScott Pilgrim vs. The World and Cinema Paradiso. In addition to this, the society usually organise socials such as pub crawls, film quizzes, and scavenger hunts.

However, to adhere to government COVID-19 rules and health regulations The Edinburgh University Film Society have cancelled all screenings for this semester. As a result, they have reduced their year membership fee to £5.

As an alternative the society will be scheduling fortnightly Zoom film quizzes every Thursday evening. The group will also be holding Zoom meetings to discuss the ‘workings of the society’ as well as various film topics on Monday evenings.

The Edinburgh University Film Society reveal, ‘We plan on resuming normal schedules as soon as possible’; aiming to be up and running by next semester (COVID-19 dependent).
